I've had the pleasure of working these talented coders from Founders & Coders, a social enterprise that offers free coding training to young people in London, Gaza and Nazareth.
They've built our brilliant new Emergency Food Finder for free. It's a web search facility, so people in Lambeth can find emergency food and support based on location and by date.
If you know any young people interested in a career in coding, check out the Founders & Coders website or if you have a charitable online project you'd like help with. It's been a great experience working with them. Big thanks to Lex, Caroline and Kitty!
If you need help this Christmas or are looking for somewhere to volunteer, make contact with Brixton Soup Kitchen.
Here is a list of food bank opening times over the Christmas break. Remember, you will need a food bank voucher to use the food banks. So make sure you contact a referral agency in plenty of time (e.g. GP, social worker, health worker, advice centre, etc.) For more information about how food banks work, check out our emergency food page.
Did you know that many girls from low income families cannot afford sanitary products? Because of this they can miss out on school and sports activities or have to face the embarrassment of having to improvise using things like tissues or socks.
There is a new petition taking off on Change.org calling for the government to introduce free sanitary products for girls receiving free school meals. Follow the link to find out more and sign the petition: #FreePeriods
I'm very excited to announce that Lambeth Larder has a new home at Brixton Advice
Centre. I ran Lambeth Food Insecurity Project, which ended in June. Since then, I've been
looking for ways continue the work and have linked up with Brixton Advice Centre.
Find out more in this interview from James Hopkirk.
