CARE Network Research Project - Take Part Now!

King's College London is inviting local people to take part in a new research project. The are looking at health and wellbeing in Black, Asian and other ethnic communities, plus faiths groups following the COVID-19 pandemic. The study is called the Community Ageing Research across Ethnicities Network (CARE Network). To take part, participants must be aged 40 or over, and have internet access. The Department of Nutritional Sciences at Kings College Hospital would like to speak to pregnant women and new mums in Lambeth. The new resource includes a directory that lists local offers - employment support, education, volunteering, plus arts and leisure. The Repair Café Lambeth is the place to bring broken belongings in need of mending - FOR FREE! No need to book, you will be seen depending on the availability of volunteers. Their team of volunteer fixers will share their specialist skills and tools to help you restore items brought from home. Enjoy free coffee or tea (and CAKE!) while you learn basic repair skills and save your stuff from landfill.

Fridge, Freezer & Other Equipment Fund: Round 6

Lambeth Council is supporting local Food VCS organisations tackling food poverty. Funding is now available for groups to purchase fridges, freezers, and other equipment that will support this vital work. Following a review, Round 6 will operate in a different way to previous funding rounds:

Organisations will receive the funding to purchase equipment directly, rather than Lambeth Council making purchases on their behalf.

As well as fridges and freezers, funding can be used to purchase other equipment up to the value of £1,500 in total.

Deadline: Sunday 18th June 2023.

The fund is for anyone who is deaf, disabled, neurodivergent or chronically ill – including anyone waiting for, or experiencing barriers to accessing, a diagnosis. To be eligible, you or the person you’re supporting, must live in the UK and be unable to fund the item(s) yourself. They can fund items up to £150 per application.

Rose Vouchers help families on low incomes buy fresh fruit and vegetables. Families receive £4 of vouchers for each child aged under 5, and each older sibling up to the age 11 (this part is new) weekly; or £6 if the child is under 1 year old. Explain your situation and ask for The Extra Help Unit. Open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (not bank holidays)

Lambeth Household Support Scheme

Lambeth Council's Household Support Scheme open to all residents with a household income of less than £30,000 per year. It includes help with high street vouchers, food vouchers, fuel payments, buying second-hand furniture, refurbished washing machine, cooker, fridge, etc., a handy-man service, a removals and storage service.

To be eligible you must:
• Be aged 16 or over
• Have lived in Lambeth for 6 weeks (those fleeing domestic or gang violence, people living in council temporary accommodation or registered care projects are exempt from this requirement)

• You no longer need to be on benefits to apply for the funding.
• If you have applied for the Emergency Support Scheme within the past 6 months but require further support for food and utility bills, you can still apply.

Lambeth Holiday Activity and Food programme (HAF) 2022 – Spring funding webinar

Lambeth Council has been awarded funding by the Department of Education (DfE) to coordinate a local Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF) during Spring, Summer and Winter school holidays.

The programme will deliver free activities and healthy food for school-aged children and young people (4-16 years) eligible for and in receipt of benefit related Free School Meals. Integrate Agency is hosting a webinar on 31st January for groups who would like to apply for funding to run actvities. Book a place here.

The government plans to cut the £20 a week increase to Universal Credit it introduced to support people in need during the Covid-19 crisis. The extra money has been a lifeline for thousands of people, many who have lost work or been ill. The effects of Covid-19 are far from over with people still losing work and on reduced incomes.
