We enjoyed meeting up with Helping Hands Collective who run a food pantry every Monday 12-2pm (not bank holidays) at the Harry Caddick Community Centre, 63 Ilford Road, SE5 9HN. They offer a low-cost shop when you spend £5 or £2.50 for fruit, vegetables, and store cupboard items. Plus, workshops and a warm space for the community.

Food pantries are a brilliant alternative to supermarkets if you are on a limited budget. Find Helping Hands Collective and other local food pantries on our Low-cost Food page.

Join Sustain : The Alliance For Better Food And Farming, for this free online workshop which will shine a spotlight on the emotional and ethical challenges faced by those working and volunteering in community food support. The session is aimed at food partnerships, food poverty alliances, community food aid providers, educators, and others working in or around community food support. Register

Lambeth's Winter of Food and Fun (HAF) application form is now open.

The programme aims to provide free holiday club places for school-aged (4-16 years) children and young people who are residents in the borough or attend a Lambeth school and are eligible for benefits-related Free School Meals (FSM). 

For the Winter HAF, Lambeth will be funding a maximum of 4 days per site across the holiday period (Monday 23rd December 2024 - Friday 3rd January 2025). DEADLINE: 5pm Monday 14 October

Age UK Lambeth and Carers’ Hub Lambeth are working in partnership to offer support to unpaid carers, whilst the person they care for is in hospital and following their discharge from hospital. They will help carers navigate what can often be a difficult and stressful time, to ensure you are connected to essential information and support for your caring role.

Who is the service for? The service is for unpaid carers, who either live in Lambeth or care for someone who does.

Please note in hospital Carers Support is currently limited to target wards during the pilot.

King's College London is inviting local people to take part in a new research project. The are looking at health and wellbeing in Black, Asian and other ethnic communities, plus faiths groups following the COVID-19 pandemic. The study is called the Community Ageing Research across Ethnicities Network (CARE Network). To take part, participants must be aged 40 or over, and have internet access. It was great seeing the community coming together to celebrate the lives and contributions of the Windrush generation to our Lambeth Community. They are offering free, online sessions for professionals working with young people to learn more about what they offer and how it can be built into your work. The Repair Café Lambeth is the place to bring broken belongings in need of mending - FOR FREE! No need to book, you will be seen depending on the availability of volunteers. Their team of volunteer fixers will share their specialist skills and tools to help you restore items brought from home. Enjoy free coffee or tea (and CAKE!) while you learn basic repair skills and save your stuff from landfill.

DASL is led by Disabled people in Lambeth. They work and campaign with Disabled residents to achieve their legal rights, be in control of their lives, be active in their communities. Help includes advice, advocacy, Direct Payments support. For more information visit the DASL website.

Lambeth Council is supporting local Food VCS organisations tackling food poverty. Funding is now available for groups to purchase fridges, freezers, and other equipment that will support this vital work. Following a review, Round 6 will operate in a different way to previous funding rounds:

Organisations will receive the funding to purchase equipment directly, rather than Lambeth Council making purchases on their behalf.

As well as fridges and freezers, funding can be used to purchase other equipment up to the value of £1,500 in total.

Deadline: Sunday 18th June 2023.

The fund is for anyone who is deaf, disabled, neurodivergent or chronically ill – including anyone waiting for, or experiencing barriers to accessing, a diagnosis. To be eligible, you or the person you’re supporting, must live in the UK and be unable to fund the item(s) yourself. They can fund items up to £150 per application.
